Friends,
After a long time, some information about the films and the two-timings…
Needless to state, I love watching movies. And while watching movies, see in and around the film, or on the screen. The story / screen play are the main ingredients of the films. But there are other points / aspects / references that makes me think and I connect two different films with a common point.
Now let me come to two films this time. Both the films are winners at the award ceremonies. While, Vidya Balan’s performance in `The Dirty Picture’ has got her not just rave reviews, but also make her the queen at the box-office. Finally, the film proved to be winner at the National Awards. Where Vidya Balan was adjusted as the `Best Actress’.
The second film, `The Artist’ is the winner at the Academy Awards. The Oscar Awards. One of the top most honours any film can get. The comparison of these two films are not just for the sake for the awards but the theme running between these films. Here the leading man of the film is adjusted as the best performer at the `Oscars’.
While in `The Dirty Picture’ – the heroine is shown to be a struggler or a small time actress who makes big in the film world. In `The Artist’ too the actress `Berenice Bejo’ is again a small time dancer who makes big it in the Hollywood.
In both the films, the heroines encounter the much-older / reigning kings of their film worlds. While in `The Dirty Picture’, Vidya Balan’s character flirts or falls in love with the box-office king of the south Indian film world. (They haven’t showed whether he is a Telugu / Tamil / Malayalam / Kannada film-actor). The film makers have chosen to be silent on this aspect.
And in this Hollywood film, `The Artist’ – the hero belongs to `the silent era’ (Pun intended). Here, also the character of the second lead, who is shown to be a dancer / junior artiste / extra, falls for the top star of the silent era. Though, there are not any sex angle to their relation as it was shown in `The Dirty Picture’.
In both the films, the heroines pass or hand-over a piece of paper scribbled something on, to the heroes. This is the way they flirt with their heroes.
While in `The Dirty Picture’, the heroine – the protagonist of the film fall in bad times. In `The Artist’, the hero , the protagonist of the film face rough weather – in both the films they fall from the pedestal due to the change in the time or the taste of the audience.
The film industry as the back-drop.
The life and times of the artistes of the film industry.
The dances have been the common point in both the films……
Yet the similarity ends here. While `The Dirty Picture’ has been a pure commercial Hindi film, which was well enjoyed by the audience.
`The Artist’ has been made a silent movie, with so much passion and love.
Love all…..
